Waterfall And Agile Methodology
The waterfall methodology in project management simply put, is the sequential/ linear approach to project management. In layman’s terms, it allows for projects to be done a step after the other. Each stage needs to be completed before moving to the next stage.
Mostly, the waterfall methodology is used on projects with clearly outlined objectives from the project's inception. All stakeholders – primary and secondary, team members inclusive of contractors and subcontractors alike have been involved in the planning and the exact end has been certified.
Waterfall methodology is mostly used in Building projects. In Building projects, drawings (Architectural, structural, mechanical and Electrical) are ready before ground-breaking. Also, there is a bill of Quantities showing the budget upon which the project will be executed.
The waterfall methodology phases include; Requirements, design implementation, verification and maintenance. So it is in building projects. The requirements are first stated (Client brief), the professionals in the built industry put up designs to fit the brief given by the client and after certification, the construction can begin in stages.
It is safe to say, building projects with well-defined objectives, adopt the waterfall methodology.
